WinX DVD Author is a suite of applications intended for DVD creation. The component programs are called Video DVD Author, Convert Video to VOB, VOB to DVD Compiler, DVD Disc Burner and YouTube Downloader. These programs are accessed via an intuitive welcome menu, in which hovering your mouse over the buttons shows a description of each of the tools.
Of all the programs in this suite, Video DVD Author is the most comprehensive. It can create DVDs from video files. Although it lets you add subtitles, it does not support importing more than one. You can also edit DVD menus. Moreover, the source movies can be edited to extract just segments from them. Two different aspect ratios are supported. Unfortunately, it only supports burning discs because saving the contents to DVD folders and ISO images is not allowed.
You can also convert video from multiple formats to VOB as the first step of compiling a DVD. In addition, you can burn discs directly from VOB files. As an extra feature, it can help you download Internet video, which you can later burn onto discs. It can monitor the clipboard for valid URLs. Luckily, downloading various files simultaneously is allowed.
In my opinion, the features provided by WinX DVD Author are unnecessarily divided into various applications. Rather than contributing to a better usability, this decision affects the logical workflow. Multiple applications prove that a better integration is feasible.
- It supports batch conversion.
